TA newlywed couple from Laguna drowned on Sunday while on their honeymoon in the Maldives, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on its site.
The DFA said it is working to repatriate the bodies of the victims it declined to identify and sent condolences to the couple’s kins.
The Philippine Embassy in Dhaka, which has jurisdiction over the Maldives, has been instructed to coordinate with authorities in the famous Indian Ocean island resort for the repatriation of the remains, according to the DFA.
The couple were married on 18 December and left Manila for their honeymoon on 9 January, DFA said.
Authorities reported that the 29-year-old wife and her 30-year-old husband were guests in a resort in Dhiffushi island and were snorkeling when they started drowning.

The couple were swimming in a shallow lagoon with a deep end between Dhiffushi and the nearby Meeru Fenfushi, according to media reports. Dhiffushi islanders then spotted the couple in distress and tried to save them.
Resort workers rescued the couple but were pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
Maldives authorities were reported to be investigating the incident.
