A former mayor of a Maguindanao town tagged years ago for allegedly transporting drugs to Davao City was killed in a shootout with law enforcers out to serve a search warrant on his home, authorities said Friday.
Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) identified the slain former mayor of Parang town as Talib Abo who allegedly died in a shootout after resisting authorities in his home in Cotabato.
In a radio interview, Cotabato City police director Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio said operatives of the Central Mindanao police drug enforcement unit were met with gunfire as they approached the home of the former mayor.
Authorities said the former mayor’s brother, Bobby Abo, was also killed in a separate operation in Barangay Bagua.
Simultaneous raids were also conducted in the homes of Amelia Abo, daughter of Talib Abo and an incumbent Parang councilor running for the vice mayor post, and a certain Bai Amy Abo.

No contraband was found in Amelia Abo’s home but a pistol and a still undetermined amount of illegal drugs were allegedly found inside Bai Amy Abo’s residence.
In 2006, a report said then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte tagged Abo for allegedly smuggling 3.5 kilos of shabu from Cotabato City to Davao using Parang’s ambulance. Mayor Abo had denied the accusation.
