Self-confessed drug dealer Kerwin Espinosa got his wish to remain in his current detention cell at the National of investigation while undergoing trial for various drug-related offenses.
This developed after Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 26 Judge Silvino Pampilo Jr. approved on Friday the motion of Espinosa’s lawyer asking for a new commitment order on his client.
Espinosa’s detention at the NBI was on the strength of the original commitment order issued by a court in Baybay, Leyte that originally handled the case against the son of the late mayor of Albuera town in the province.
However, the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of venue of the cases from Baybay to Manila last year.
Judge Pampilo said the prosecutors did not oppose Espinosa’s request.
