The two suspects are now facing charges for illegal possession of firearms and violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002

A member of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) council in Pasay City and his companion were arrested Saturday night for possession of shabu with an estimated street value of P1.8 million and unlicensed firearm.

The Pasay City Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified one of the suspects as Christian Joshua Leria, incumbent member of SK council of Barangay 97, Zone 14.

According to the police, they received a tip that Leria was involved in gunrunning and drug trafficking.

Leria and his male companion, Cedrio Garcia, were arrested after they sold a .38 caliber revolver for P8,000 to an undercover police operative.

A search of the bag of the suspects also yielded two plastic bags containing a substance suspected of being methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

Police sources said they had been conducting surveillance against Leria for over two weeks before they launched the entrapment operation.

Leria denied ownership of the illegal drugs, claiming he was merely a courier.

In Tondo, operatives of the Manila Police District killed a toughie and an alleged drug pusher in a shootout at the crack of dawn yesterday.

Supt Jay Dimaandal, chief of MPD Station 1, identified the fatality as Arvie Garcia alias “Bengkong,” a resident of Building 4 in the so-called “Happy Land.”

Garcia allegedly sold drugs to an undercover cop but he drew his firearm after sensing it was a drug sting.

Records show the suspect has pending cases for robbery, snatching and violation of PD1602.

Recovered from him was a revolver, the P300 marked money and sachets of suspected shabu.
