HEMET, California — Defending champion Team Manila-Philippines clobbered Moreno Valley, 16-0, to gain momentum entering the final day of the 2018 PONY World Series U18 Girls Softball Championships at the Diamond Valley Park inside the Valley-Wide Recreation District here.
Pitcher Glory Alonzo delivered another stellar performance with three no-run innings, two fine defensive stops and a one-run homer while limiting Moreno Valley to just four hits to spearhead the Big City batters in the first match of a double-header.
But it was at the end of the first inning when the Big City batter scored seven straight runs jumpstarted by a two-run homerun by Alexandria Romero-Salas, followed by another two-run homer by catcher Alaiza Talisik and another run by centerfielder Khrisha Cantor off a base hit by third baseman Madaelene Domaug.
Another two-run homerun at the end of the second was completed by first pitcher Cleofe Magsayo after a couple of one-run homeruns by pitcher Alonzo and shortstop Angelu Gabriel, including an RBI each by Romero-Salas and Cantor for a final count.
In the second of the double-header, hurler Alma Tauli was in her usual fine form as she silenced the San Bernardino Blake crowd with five strike outs, two defensive stops, and three no run innings to lead the Manila softbelles to a 10-0 win over San Bernardino.

Magsayo took over the mount from Tauli at the start of fourth inning and gave an impressive performance with three strikeouts and two no-run innings.
It was also Magsayo who started the scoring spree at the bottom of the first with a one-run homerun for a 2-0 lead followed by another homerun by Gabriel and a run each by Magsayo and Romero-Salas off a base hit by Talisik in the third inning for a 5-0 lead to set the tone for the impressive win.
“We can’t afford to be complacent. We have to focus on our next game,” said head coach Anna Santiago. “This team won’t be a travelling team here for nothing. They have what it takes to win.”
