“Disaster teams are deployed in typhoon-hit areas.

Severe weather conditions due to the habagat (southwest monsoon) compounded by the consecutive tropical cyclones “Henry,” “Inday” and “Josie” have so far affected 282,447 families or 1,253,697 individuals in Regions 1, 3, 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), 6, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the National Capital Region (NCR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in an update on Wednesday evening.

Ricardo Jalad, NDRRMC executive director, said 12,127 families or 48,830 persons are being aided and sheltered in 293 evacuation centers, while 120,286 families or 484,721 individuals are being aided outside of evacuation centers.

Also, the death toll hit nine, one injured and another missing in Regions 7, 4A, NCR and CAR.

Bad weather also affected 103 road sections and eight bridges in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, 6 and CAR.

There were 579 flooded areas in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, CAR and NCR.

The floods in 320 of these areas have already subsided.

For its part, the 7th Infantry Division (7ID) and its subordinate units had been conducting Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations (HADRO) to the monsoon-affected areas.

7ID formed a total of 39 teams to respond to the needs of the people and was able to assist a total of 10,156 families from Regions 1 and 3.

Some municipalities under the 71D’s Area of Responsibility were placed under a State of Calamity like Ramos, Lapaz and Camiling, all of Tarlac; Marilao and Paombong of Bulacan; Masantol, Pampanga; Licab, Nueva Ecija and the whole provinces of Pangasinan and Bataan.

Four casualties were retrieved: two died of drowning in Pangasinan, while two others were victims of a landslide in La Union.

Major General Felimon T. Santos Jr., commander of 71D, personally met with the regional directors of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) in Regions 1 and 3 to coordinate the relief and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) forces continue their HADRO in several areas in Central Luzon and Ilocos Region.

NOLCOM Air Power shifted to helping flood victims, through its Tactical Operations Group 3 (TOG3) of the Philippine Air Force, within its area of responsibility.

Four civilians were rescued by Disaster Response Team Units (DRTU) on 20 July in Villa Paz, Gerona, Tarlac.

Another 25 civilians were rescued; 200 sacks of relief goods were repacked and delivered; and a sand-bagging activity was conducted in Balanti, Tarlac City on 21 and 22 July.

Another NOLCOM Air Force unit, the Tactical Operations Group 1 (TOG1), rescued one pregnant mother in Pangasinan last 24 July.

At 5 p.m. yesterday (24 July), DRTU from the Naval Forces-Northern Luzon (NF-NL) conducted clearing operations and sandbagging along Upper Cubi, Aparri Road in SBMA, Olongapo City, Zambales.

Also, another Navy DRTU conducted clearing operations and sandbagging at Pier 1, SBMA, Olongapo.

The Naval Reservist DRTU, from the Naval Reserve Central-Northern Luzon (NRCenNL), participated in giving food to evacuees numbering at 228 families at Astrodome, Dagupan City, Pangasinan.

Now on its 4th Day of Typhoon Assistance to the victims, all of Team NOLCOM Disaster Response missions were successfully completed.
