Around 80 houses were destroyed when an evening fire hit a residential area that even reached a portion of the University of Manila in Sampaloc, Manila, Sunday evening.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started at around 6 p.m. at the corner of Delgado and de los Santos Streets. It then reached the fourth floor of the University of Manila’s Annex Building.
A number of responding fire volunteer trucks immediately rushed to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to a residential building that houses mostly student boarders and tenants.
Most of the burned houses were made up of light materials, the BFP said.
Firefighters declared the fire under control at 9:44 p.m. and fire out at 1 a.m. the following day.
