“Operations and initiatives will be active in the coming days through the conduct of Oplan Sita, Oplan Bulabog, Oplan Bakal and other anti-criminality operations all over the country.”

The Philippine National Police (PNP) high command yesterday ordered the relief of Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Alfred Corpus, barely 12 days after he was assigned to the post.

No reason was cited for the immediate relief of Corpus, but National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said it was a decision of the National Headquarters.

The EPD is one of Metro Manila police districts that poses daunting task on authorities, having the police stations of Marikina, Pasig, Mandaluyong and San Juan under its jurisdiction.

Prior to becoming EPD director in an acting capacity last June 14, Corpus used to be the deputy director of the PNP Directorate for Intelligence.

Senior Supt. Bernabe Balba replaced Corpus, who was reassigned to the Office of the Chief PNP in Camp Crame as the PNP, under Director General Oscar Albayalde, continued to reshuffle key posts in the face of the police’s unrelenting fight versus all forms of criminality as well as the implementation of the cities and municipal ordinances.

Meanwhile, PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has ordered all PNP units to intensify the enforcement of laws and local government ordinances to prevent the occurrence of street crime nationwide.

At the same time, Albayalde reminded policemen to ensure that they religiously follow the Police Operational Procedures (POP) and observe human rights at all times.

In a memorandum circulated to all Police Regional Offices (PROs) and National Support Units (NSUs), the PNP chief instructed all regional directors to oversee the strict implementation of laws and local ordinances through arrest of violators such as those drinking and smoking in public places, roaming the streets without shirts, using karaoke beyond the allowed time, minors violating curfew hours, among others.

“Be reminded that among our operational thrusts is the active presence and aggressive deployment of our policemen as an urgent intervention to prevent the occurrence of common street crimes,” Albayalde said.

He added that operations and initiatives will be in active in the coming days through the conduct of Oplan Sita, Oplan Bulabog, Oplan Bakal, and other anti-criminality operations all over the country.

In addition, the local police units were instructed to coordinate closely with local and barangay officials in the enforcement of ordinances, and to initiate enactment of ordinances through the Local Peace and Order Councils or Sangguniang Bayan in areas where there are no existing ordinances in support of this drive.
