Photographers may now use professional camera gear for personal and souvenir photography within the historic walled city of Intramuros without securing a permit, the Department of Tourism (DoT) announced Sunday.

The policy change, implemented through a partnership between the Intramuros Administration and retail distributor CameraHaus, aims to broaden access to heritage photography and encourage visual artists to document the historic district.

Tourism officials reminded photographers to comply with site preservation rules, including restrictions on flash photography in specific zones to protect heritage structures and museum artifacts.

To mark the launch, the inaugural Street Summit convened more than 300 photographers, content creators, and visual artists for a community photowalk on Saturday.

Carrying the theme “Intramuros Reframed,” the event urged participants to highlight lesser-known locations across the historic sector.
