Quezon City police officers arrested a 45-year-old woman with a history of theft offenses after she allegedly stole a cellphone, cash and a handgun from a sleeping retired police officer, authorities announced Wednesday.

The Quezon City Police District identified the suspect as a resident of Barangay Ramon Magsaysay. She faces a formal theft complaint before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

According to a report from the La Loma Police Station, a 49-year-old retired police officer fell asleep inside his parked vehicle along Samson Road in Barangay Apolonio Samson around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday. Upon waking, he discovered that his belongings had been stolen from the vehicle.

The victim reported the incident to local barangay officials and the La Loma police station.

During a follow-up operation later that afternoon, police officers and the victim spotted a woman matching the suspect’s description along Ilocos Sur Street in Barangay Ramon Magsaysay around 1 p.m.

The victim identified his Infinix smartphone in her possession, prompting officers to apprehend her and recover the device.

Police are searching for the remaining stolen items, which include a .45-caliber pistol valued at P30,000, P25,000 in cash, and a sling bag containing identification and bank cards.

Background checks revealed that the suspect has six previous theft charges dating between 2016 and 2024.

Records show she was also charged in October 2018 with violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and resistance and disobedience to an agent of authority under the Revised Penal Code.
