Filipinos are traveling in greater numbers this year, with visa applications rising 20 percent in the first eight months of 2026 compared with the same period last year.

Data from VFS Global shows the surge is largely driven by travel to non-Schengen destinations, which saw a 28 percent increase in applications from January to August. The most popular non-Schengen countries for Filipino travelers include Australia, Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, demand for European travel remained stable. The top Schengen destinations were Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Convenience is also becoming a major priority for outbound travelers. Demand for at-home visa processing grew by 58 percent, allowing applicants to submit documents, enroll biometrics and have their passports delivered directly to their homes.

“The continued rise in visa applications from the Philippines highlights growing confidence among Filipino travelers and a strong desire to explore opportunities abroad,” said Atul Lall, regional head of North Asia for VFS Global.

With travel expected to remain strong through the end of the year, experts urge travelers to plan journeys early, submit applications well ahead of departure dates and rely exclusively on official channels to avoid fraud during high-demand periods.
