Kalinga sub-tribes sign peace pact ending tribal conflict

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Two indigenous sub-tribes from the municipality of Lubuagan formally ended decades of tribal conflict on Wednesday after signing an amicable settlement and restoring their traditional bodong peace pact at the Kalinga Sports Complex.
Representatives from the Lubuagan and Mabongtot sub-tribes performed the traditional sipat and allasiw rituals — the customary exchange of peace tokens — signifying a mutual commitment to dismantle hostility, rebuild ancestral ties, and restore peaceful relations across their shared municipal boundaries.
The reconciliation process was mediated by a multi-sectoral team facilitated by Lubuagan Vice Mayor Oliver Dickly and the Kalinga Bodong Council of Elders under chairperson Jhonny Maymaya.
