San Beda University leaned on Andrei Ugaddan down the stretch to escape Jose Rizal University (JRU), 65-62, in Group A of Season 102 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.

Ugaddan, who finished with 11 points and three rebounds, came alive in the final minutes as the Red Lions rallied from a five-point deficit to improve to a 2-1 win-loss record.

JRU appeared poised to pull off the upset after taking a 62-57 lead, but Ugaddan answered with a personal 6-0 run capped by two triples to put San Beda ahead, 63-62, with 1:23 left.

Jahmir Eligado had a chance to put the Heavy Bombers back in front but missed a midrange jumper, allowing Sean Torculas to grab the rebound and draw a foul.

Torculas calmly sank both free throws to close out scoring with 1:07 remaining.
