Rizal, Palawan steps up sports, medical readiness

The Municipality of Dr. Jose P. Rizal is strengthening its sports facilities and medical support as it prepares to host more sporting events in the municipality.
Athletes Mob PH has supplied essential sports equipment, including a basketball goal, scoreboard, volleyball net and badminton net, giving the municipality additional resources for competitions across different sporting disciplines.
A medical team from MACD Medical Equipment and Supplies Trading is also on standby through its mobile clinic to provide medical assistance during sporting activities.
The combination of sports equipment and ready medical support comes as Rizal builds on its experience hosting the 28th Southern Palawan Inter-Municipality Friendship Meet from 9 to 12 September.
The four-day event brought together athletes and delegations from nine municipalities — Aborlan, Balabac, Bataraza, Brooke’s Point, Kalayaan, Narra, Quezon, Rizal and Sofronio Española — for competitions aimed at promoting sportsmanship and camaraderie among Southern Palawan communities.
Rizal emerged as the overall champion, highlighted by its victories in men’s basketball and the duet competition.
Sofronio Española won the badminton mixed doubles, women’s doubles and solo competitions, while Quezon took the men’s doubles and bench cheering titles. Narra won the Unity in Motion inter-LGU dance competition, while Brooke’s Point topped the Zumba competition.
The successful staging of the Friendship Meet comes as Rizal looks to expand its role as a venue for sporting activities.
Mayor Norman S. Ong earlier said the municipality is planning more sporting activities next year, including a bigger league that could bring teams from outside Rizal.
The planned expansion would give the municipality more opportunities to host athletes and sports delegations while showcasing Rizal as a destination for sporting events.
With sports equipment in place and a medical team ready to respond during competitions, Rizal is preparing to accommodate athletes across a wider range of sporting activities as it looks ahead to a busier sports calendar.
