NephroPlus Philippines conducted a kidney health medical mission for the Mangyan Indigenous Community in Sitio Lagonglong, Barangay Water, Baco, Oriental Mindoro, as part of its efforts to promote kidney disease prevention and early detection.

The initiative, held in partnership with the Municipal Government of Baco, benefited around 265 community members who received health education, basic medical screening and individual counseling.

The educational sessions covered kidney health, common risk factors for kidney disease, the importance of early detection, treatment options, proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices.

A NephroPlus nephrologist discussed kidney health, prevention and early awareness, while the company’s dietitians provided guidance on nutrition and everyday food choices that may support kidney health.

The medical team also provided free blood pressure, blood sugar and creatinine tests to help assess kidney function and identify potential health concerns. Participants received individual counseling, while those needing further medical evaluation were referred for appropriate follow-up care.

Community members also received medicines and groceries, while the NephroPlus team shared a meal and interacted with residents as part of the outreach activity.

The medical mission marked NephroPlus Philippines’ milestone of reaching 50 dialysis clinics in the country. The company said the initiative reflects its effort to extend healthcare advocacy beyond its dialysis centers.

“Crossing 50 clinics is an important milestone for NephroPlus Philippines, but growth in healthcare should not only be measured by the number of clinics we open. It should also be reflected in the impact we create in the communities we serve,” said Gowtham Arumugam, country head of NephroPlus Philippines.

Baco Mayor Allan Roldan expressed gratitude to NephroPlus for partnering with the local government to bring the health initiative to the community.

“We are grateful to NephroPlus Philippines for partnering with the Municipal Government of Baco to bring this important health initiative to our community,” Roldan said. He added that adequate knowledge about kidney disease and how to prevent it is important and expressed hope that similar partnerships would continue in the Philippines.

NephroPlus Philippines said it now operates 53 dialysis clinics nationwide. It is the local arm of NephroPlus, which operates more than 500 dialysis clinics across Asia.
