Maya rolls out ID-less verification

Digital financial services provider Maya has introduced an ID-less verification option for eligible users upgrading their accounts, allowing them to verify their identity without photographing or uploading a physical identification card.
Under the new process, users can enter their name and birthday, which Maya checks against their National ID records through the Philippine Statistics Authority’s National ID eVerify service. Users who have their National ID number saved or memorized may also use the number for verification.
After the initial verification, users are asked to take a video selfie to confirm their identity. Maya will then request only additional information that cannot already be verified.
If the system cannot verify a user’s information through National ID eVerify, the user can proceed with Maya’s regular ID-upload process without restarting the account upgrade.
Maya said the streamlined process continues to include applicable identity verification, screening and other regulatory checks. Artificial intelligence and automation handle routine verification tasks, while cases requiring closer examination are referred for human review.
