LETRAN continued its strong start in NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament after making quick work of San Sebastian, 99-62, at San Juan Arena on Friday.

The Knights hiked their record to 2-0 to sit atop the ladder in the young season.

“We just tried to work hard in this game and it came with the preparation that we did. We didn’t relax,” Chad Gammad said after dropping 19 points, four rebounds and three assists

“Even if we had times when we couldn’t score, we stuck to the system. That’s what coach Allen (Ricardo) likes.”

The Knights began the game with guns blazing as they built a 24-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

It only got worse for the Golden Stags since then as they were limited to just 12 measly points in the second frame.

By the time the intermission rolled around, Letran had already built in insurmountable 49-27 lead over Baste.

Denzil Walker top scored for the Season 101 finalists with 25 points while Titing Manalili nearly had a double-double with 14 points and nine assists.

Khit Barroga paced Baste in the loss with 15 markers while Matt Acosta scored 10 in a losing effort as the Stags crashed to a 0-2 card.

Earlier, the first game between San Beda and Jose Rizal University was suspended due to venue concerns.

Strong rains ensued in the San Juan area, affecting the playing court and making it unfit for players to compete in.

The NCAA committee kept the players’ safety in mind with the decision as the hardwood was reportedly “too moist,” for any basketball activities.
