The Philippines is often introduced through its breathtaking landscapes. From white-sand beaches and turquoise waters to mountains, forests and rich marine ecosystems, the country has no shortage of natural wonders.

But there is another kind of wealth that cannot be measured in hectares, minerals or coastlines.

It lives in the imagination of its people.

Across the country, Filipinos continue to create, perform, design, write, sing, dance and tell stories in ways shaped by their culture, experiences and communities. Creativity can be found in a theater production in Manila, a song written in a small hometown, a dance rehearsed by young artists, a handmade creation by a local artisan or a new work waiting to be discovered by audiences beyond the Philippines.

This abundance of talent makes the country's creative industries more than a source of entertainment. It is also a valuable part of the nation's cultural identity and economic potential.

The performing arts, in particular, offer a glimpse of just how much Filipino talent can bring to the world.

This September, CREATEPhilippines x Manila International Performing Arts Market (MIPAM) 2026 brings Filipino artists, performing groups and industry players together with international partners. Organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), the three-day event from 11 to 13 September at the CCP is designed to encourage artistic exchange, collaboration and business opportunities.

Carrying the theme “Showcasing Asia to the World,” the festival connects artists and performing arts companies with producers, presenters, programmers, cultural institutions and other industry partners.

It goes beyond the traditional festival experience. The program includes a market, business-to-business meetings, content pitching sessions, networking activities, artists' talks, information sessions and a Business Access Center. Together, these provide creatives with spaces to meet potential partners, share ideas, understand the business side of their craft and explore new possibilities for their work.

And, of course, there will be performances.

The showcases and jam sessions will bring together artists and performing groups from different disciplines, giving audiences an opportunity to experience the range of Filipino talent firsthand. From music and dance to other forms of live performance, these creative works carry pieces of Filipino stories and perspectives with them.

CREATEPhilippines x MIPAM also builds on its previous programs for the performing arts community. From 2024 to 2025, its “Navigating the Tour Circuit” initiative provided learning opportunities on branding, marketing, pitching, licensing and product management, helping creatives better understand how their artistic work can develop into sustainable careers.

Because talent is only part of the journey.

Artists also need platforms where they can be discovered, people who can help bring their ideas to life and opportunities that allow their work to reach new audiences.

For a country blessed with extraordinary natural resources, the Philippines has another treasure that is just as remarkable: its people. They are painters and performers, musicians and dancers, writers and designers, filmmakers and storytellers, artisans and innovators.

They create from what they know, what they feel and what they see around them. And as Filipino creative works find more opportunities to cross borders, the world gets to discover something beyond the country's beautiful shores.

It gets to discover the imagination of the Filipino.
