Two individuals were arrested and a caliber .380 pistol was recovered during the intensified implementation of Oplan Sita in Las Piñas City early Sunday morning.

At about 12:50 a.m., personnel of the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit of Las Piñas City Police Station were conducting anti-criminality operations along Marcos Alvarez, Barangay Talon Singko, when they flagged down a black Yamaha Mio I motorcycle.

Instead of pulling over, the driver, identified as alias Francis, 20, allegedly sped away, prompting the police officers to pursue the motorcycle.

After the suspects were cornered, pnp personnel noticed the handle of a caliber .380 pistol tucked at the right waist of alias Ryan, 20. The firearm was loaded with one magazine containing five live cartridges, while a black holster was also recovered.

Alias Ryan was directed to present the pertinent documents for the firearm but failed to produce any, resulting in his arrest for violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Alias Francis, meanwhile, was arrested for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code.

The suspects and the seized pieces of evidence were turned over to the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section of Las Piñas City Police Statipn for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges through inquest proceedings before the Las Piñas City Prosecutor.

The recovered firearm will be turned over to the SPD Forensic and Crime Laboratory Unit for laboratory examination.
