Twenty-eight families displaced by a fire that damaged several houses in Barangay 2, Maslog, received immediate relief and building materials from the Eastern Samar provincial government.

Reports disclosed that the blaze broke out at about 6:18 p.m. on 5 September, according to a partial assessment by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

Governor RV Evardone led the distribution of relief supplies, giving each affected family a sack of rice, a box of canned goods, and construction materials, including galvanized iron sheets and plywood.

The provincial government will also provide P25,000 in financial assistance to each family whose home was totally destroyed. Financial aid for families with partially damaged homes will be determined after a complete assessment.

Evardone met with the fire victims during the relief operation to promise continued support, noting that disaster victims lose most of their belongings and require urgent aid to begin rebuilding.

He was joined by board members Timmy Campomanes, PJ Evardone and Byron M. Suyot, along with Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Thomas Campomanes.

Maslog Mayor Septemio Bok thanked the provincial government for its prompt response to the disaster.
