Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) won six medals at the 2026 Toyota Asia Pacific Skills Contest (ASPAC) in Thailand, its best result since it joined the annual competition in 2006.

The Filipino delegation earned two silver and four bronze medals across all six contest categories. The result gave TMP its first podium finish in every category at a single edition of the regional event.

Christian Cobilla took silver in Painting under the Team Leader category, while Wilmer Penalla placed second in Logistics under the Team Member division.

Noel Elpos, Edwin Bocaya, Loreto Muyna and Ramel Sarmiento received bronze medals for their work in Logistics, Assembly, Quality Control and Welding.

The competition was held at Toyota Motor Thailand’s Ban Pho Plant in Chachoengsao Province. It gathered line team members and leaders from 11 Toyota affiliates in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Pakistan and India.

TMP has now collected 14 medals in the regional contest since its debut 20 years ago. The total includes four gold medals, with the latest won during the 2025 competition.

The six-medal finish also came as TMP celebrated its 38th anniversary in the Philippines. Its manufacturing plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna, produces the Vios, Innova and Next Generation Tamaraw from completely knocked-down kits.

TMP has assembled more than 1.2 million vehicles in the country since it began local operations. The Santa Rosa facility now has the capacity to produce over 60,000 units annually.

The carmaker has also opened an in-house vehicle conversion facility for the Next Generation Tamaraw. The operation can produce six body configurations for different uses, which include utility vans and ambulances.

The new facility gives Filipino designers, engineers, parts suppliers and body builders more opportunities to work on vehicles designed for local transport and business requirements.
