Norris wins Dutch GP amid Mercedes team orders

Formula 1 returned from its summer break at Zandvoort for a dramatic Dutch Grand Prix, with Lando Norris taking victory in what could be the final race at the iconic seaside circuit for the foreseeable future.

The McLaren driver converted pole position into his second consecutive victory, beating Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli by 11.536 seconds. George Russell completed the podium in third, just 15.906 seconds behind Norris.

The race was thrown into chaos at the end of the opening lap when home favorite Max Verstappen lost control of his Red Bull and crashed into the barriers. The incident brought out the safety car before the race was red-flagged, forcing a restart.

Antonelli initially seized the lead at the restart, but Norris gradually found his rhythm. After the pit-stop phase, the McLaren proved significantly stronger on the hard tyres, allowing Norris to regain the lead and pull away from his rivals.

The battle for the remaining podium places became a tense fight between Mercedes and Ferrari. Russell had to defend from Lewis Hamilton, who eventually finished fourth, while Charles Leclerc took fifth.

The biggest talking point, however, came in the closing stages. With Antonelli on fresher tyres after a late stop, Mercedes ordered Russell to let his teammate through for second. Russell obeyed, leaving himself vulnerable to Hamilton and the Ferraris behind.

Russell ultimately held on to third, while Antonelli strengthened his championship lead to 59 points. Russell also moved into second in the standings, while Norris cut his deficit to Antonelli to 83 points.

The dramatic finish ensured Zandvoort's latest chapter ended on a memorable note.
