PHLPost warns public against ‘smishing’ scams

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has warned the public against fraudulent text messages, or “smishing,” that use the agency’s name and identity to steal personal and financial information.
PHLPost said scammers typically send text messages containing suspicious links and claim there is a problem with a parcel delivery because of an incomplete address or that an immediate “redelivery fee” must be paid using a credit or debit card.
The agency stressed that such messages do not come from PHLPost.
PHLPost said it does not ask for sensitive information, including bank account details, card information, passwords or one-time passwords through text messages.
The public was advised not to click suspicious links, share personal or banking information, or make online payments through unverified websites.
Recipients should also verify the source and authenticity of messages before taking any action.
For legitimate parcel tracking and verification, PHLPost urged the public to use only its official website and authorized communication channels.
Those who receive suspicious messages may contact PHLPost Customer Service at (02) 8288-7678 or 8288-POST. Reports may also be sent to phlpostcares@phlpost.gov.ph or the PHLPost Inspectorate Department at isd@phlpost.gov.ph.
PHLPost urged the public to remain vigilant when receiving text messages, social media posts, emails and other online communications.
