CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The class suspension scheduled for Monday was lifted after authorities arrested a 15-year-old suspect on Saturday who posted social media threats targeting several schools and educational institutions, including Valencia National High School and Central Mindanao University (CMU).
Valencia City government spokesperson Jun Galario said the suspect was brought into police custody Saturday afternoon by Valencia police operatives and turned over to the City Social Services Department for further disposition in accordance with laws handling minors in conflict with the law.
He said the suspension of classes was originally issued following online threats of mass shootings in schools across the city.
He added that with the arrest of the suspect, the alleged threat has been neutralized.
Galario said the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Schools Division Superintendent have been informed of the matter, with appropriate measures being undertaken to address the situation.
The development comes amid heightened concerns over school safety following recent shooting incidents in Philippine schools.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and rely only on official announcements.
