The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has renewed its warning against a phishing scam that sends motorists text messages claiming they have outstanding MMDA or No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) violations and directs them to fraudulent payment websites.
MMDA general manager Nicolas Torre III said he continued to receive messages and screenshots of the scam, which uses different website addresses and wording but follows the same scheme.
“Do not click the link. Do not enter your credit card details, especially your CVV,” Torre said in a social media post.
The fake websites reportedly display a supposed traffic violation before asking victims to provide their card number, expiration date and CVV.
Torre said an earlier demonstration showed how easily the fraudulent system could generate a supposed violation using fictitious information, including the plate number “ABC 123” and cellphone number “09171234567.”
He stressed that the legitimate MMDA website does not have a payment portal or a link directing motorists to one to settle NCAP violations.
