  • MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — Hallmark Mining Corporation has appealed for a peaceful and lawful end to barricades blocking access to the Pujada Nickel Project in Barangay Macambol, Mati City, Davao Oriental.

The blockades have disrupted the operations and movement of roughly 2,000 employees and contractors connected to the development. The Pujada Nickel Project according to the company operates under Mineral Production Sharing Agreements (MPSA) approved by the national government, granting the company authorization for mineral exploration, development, and utilization within designated contract areas in accordance with Philippine regulations.

Road closures along the provincial road leading to and inside the project area began on July 21, 2026. The restrictions have impeded the transport of company personnel, contractors, operational vehicles, fuel, food, equipment, and other basic supplies.

The disruption has also affected local public services. On August 16, 2026, school buses operated by the company to transport local students were barred from passing through the blockade. Company officials expressed concern over the impact of these restrictions on students, families, and residents who rely on community transit options..

Hallmark Mining Corporation has formally notified the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) Region XI regarding the road blockages. The firm is actively coordinating with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the Philippine National Police, and relevant local authorities to address the situation.

Company representatives acknowledged the rights of individuals and indigenous cultural communities to voice grievances, but urged stakeholders to resolve disputes through formal legal channels, dialogue, and administrative procedures rather than blockades that disrupt essential services and local livelihoods.
