A Filipino-made animated series promoting better waste management has reached more than 121,000 YouTube subscribers as Mondelēz International Philippines and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) strengthen efforts to bring environmental education to children and families.
The partners recently launched the fifth and final episode of Miming and Friends, titled “The Greenhouse Monster Part 2,” which focuses on how pollution contributes to climate and environmental problems and how communities can respond through waste segregation, recycling and composting.
The launch also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between Mondelēz and DENR-EMB, formalizing their cooperation in promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
The animated series was developed with ocean conservation group Save Philippine Seas and creators Ramon del Prado and Meryll Yan of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. It began in 2022 and uses Filipino storytelling to explain environmental issues in a format aimed at younger audiences.
“Animation is powerful! Kids listen, parents learn alongside them. By bringing science into storytelling, we help more families understand why waste segregation matters, how plastics affect oceans, and what they can do in their communities,” Save Philippine Seas executive director Anna Oposa said.
Mondelēz said the project also supports the country’s Extended Producer Responsibility framework under Republic Act 11898, which requires large companies to help recover and divert post-consumer plastic packaging waste.
Caitlin Punzalan, corporate and government affairs lead of Mondelēz International Philippines, said the series aims to make environmental lessons easier for families to understand.
“Miming and Friends shows that learning about the environment doesn't have to be scary or complicated. By placing sustainability in the hands of children and their families —through fun, Filipino storytelling—we can hopefully help build habits that last across generations,” Punzalan said.
Since its launch, the channel has gained hundreds of thousands of cumulative views and received YouTube’s Silver Play Button in January 2026. Its materials are also being used by schools, nonprofit groups, teachers and the DENR as learning resources.
