DAVAO CITY — Around 40 teams from all over the region are expected to show their wares in the 2026 Kadayawan Sepak Takraw tournament set on Friday and Saturday at the Davao City Recreation Center here.
Joey Libaton, a veteran kicker from University of Mindanao, is thrilled to announce roll out the event, where players who competed in the BIMP-EALA Games and Philippine National Games are tipped to see action for the title and the P300,000 prize money.
“This will be the grandest tournament so far for the sepak takraw community as players who competed in in the BIMP-EAGA and the PNG are expected to compete,” Libaton said.
The tournament will be open for teams 16 years-old and above with free registration. Teams will play in a single round-robin elimination with the winners going to the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, in that order.
“The tournament’s drive is to develop a program for the sport of sepak takraw. Garnering new local talents may push the city’s bid in participating future national and international competitions,” added Joey Villarca, chief of staff of Congressman Paolo Duterte, who also backs the tournament.
