The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Berdeng Kalabaw have signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen sustainable waste management across BSP facilities.

Under the agreement signed on 30 July 2026, Berdeng Kalabaw will collect recyclable waste from the BSP Head Office in Manila and the Security Plant Complex in Quezon City.

The organization will also provide regular reports on the volume of recyclable waste collected from BSP facilities and diverted from landfills.

The BSP, meanwhile, will promote proper waste segregation and educate employees on recycling practices.

“The partnership strengthens accountability in the BSP's waste management efforts and helps turn our sustainability commitments into credible action. It is a step closer to further embedding sustainability into the way we work, the choices we make, and the habits we practice every day,” BSP assistant governor and chief sustainability officer Pia Bernadette R. Tayag said.

Berdeng Kalabaw head of Partnerships and Programs Nadine Coronado said the partnership seeks to ensure that recyclable materials are properly managed and given a sustainable endpoint.

“We are here to ensure that the BSP's efforts to segregate and manage waste sustainably are done holistically — wherein each recyclable, may it be plastic, paper, or metal, is brought to a sustainable endpoint where it can be given new life,” Coronado said.

The BSP plans to expand the model to its regional offices and branches through similar partnerships with local waste management providers.

The agreement supports the BSP’s Toward Zero Waste Program, which seeks to minimize waste from BSP operations through waste reduction policies, improved waste management infrastructure and employee engagement.
