Statistics show that 50 percent of females globally will experience hair loss in their lifetime and 80 percent of males would experience it in their whole life, Dr. Maria Julieta “Mariel” Arambulo-Cordero, hair transplant associate physician of Asian Hair Restoration Center, told DAILY TRIBUNE, citing scientific journals.

“Because when you age, you’d really lose hair, especially if you have family history of hair loss. I mean, if your uncles, aunts, either mother or father side. If they have genetic type of hair loss, they might inherit that,” she explained.

Hair loss, she said, is “a very big deal, especially with males.”

According to her, since hair loss is males’ “only concern” apart from their private part, then their hair loss can now also be solved by their private part.

“We’re laughing about it that last month, we had a (hair transplant) patient where we got the hair from the underarms and the pubic hair,” Dr. Mariel said.

She forecasted that when the hair got implanted, it could become kinky like its sources.

“It was the patient’s preference. He didn’t want to have his lower scalp hair to be touched,” she explained. “But we always advice that the lower part of the scalp is still the best (source).”

She gave a 100 percent assurance that the transplanted private area hair would grow permanently after four to six months. But according to the doctor, the patient is really kinky on the head, so he could pull off the transplanted pubic hair on his crown.

Dr. Mariel’s mom, Dr. Julieta Peralta-Arambulo, Asian Hair Restoration Center president and founder, claims to be the first and only in the Philippines as an American board-certified hair transplant surgeon who is also into international surgery and transplant.

A hair transplant, according to Dr. Mariel, usually entails about 12 hours of surgery, with hair coming from the lower part of the scalp or the chest. Hair transplant is also done in eyebrows and other body parts. A surgery costs a minimum of P200,000, she said, but hair growth is assured after four to six months and “will last forever.”
