Protesters commemorate 1898 Mock Bottle of Manila

The sudden downpour brought by the monsoon rains did not stop demonstrators from marching along Kalaw Avenue in Manila on 13 August 2026, in protest against the proposed U.S.-led Pax Silica Project. The protest also commemorated the 1898 Mock Battle of Manila, a staged engagement between Spanish and U.S. forces intended to facilitate the transfer of control over the city from Spain to the United States, while keeping Filipino revolutionaries at bay.
