In compliance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), through its key shelter agencies (KSA), has ordered a moratorium on housing loan amortizations for qualified beneficiaries in areas affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon, tropical storm “Luis,” and typhoon “Maymay.”

DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling issued the directive Monday after the President ordered government agencies to ensure that assistance reached residents affected by the heavy rains, particularly those in far-flung communities.

The moratorium will cover qualified member-beneficiaries of the National Housing Authority, Social Housing Finance Corp., and National Home Mortgage Finance Corp., subject to the guidelines to be issued by each agency.

Meanwhile, Pag-IBIG Fund continues to offer its Safe Loan program to qualified members.

“In line with President Marcos’ directive to ensure that all our fellow Filipinos affected by the southwest monsoon and the storms are reached, we have ordered our key shelter agencies to immediately implement a housing moratorium for qualified beneficiaries,” Aliling said.

“During disasters, it is important that we help ease their worries. This is DHSUD’s contribution to help, in whatever way we can, disaster victims recover from the flooding,” he added.

The KSAs will issue their respective guidelines detailing the coverage of the moratorium and the procedures for availing of the relief measure.

Aliling also directed DHSUD regional offices in affected areas to coordinate closely with local government units and other agencies to assess the housing needs of affected families.

The regional offices were likewise instructed to pay particular attention to communities in danger zones, in line with the President’s directive to prioritize the safety of affected residents.

“We want to make sure that no one is left behind, especially families in remote and dangerous areas. DHSUD will continue coordinating with LGUs and other agencies to determine their needs and provide the necessary housing assistance,” Aliling said.
