Baguio landslide leaves 7 missing, 3 dead




BAGUIO CITY — Personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), police and other responders are searching for the remaining individuals who were buried under a landslide in Purok 2, Guisad Surong, Baguio City.
The missing individuals include three minors, three adults and one elderly male. Families of the victims remain at the scene, with some actively assisting emergency responders in the recovery efforts.
At past 7 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2026, during a heavy downpour, a landslide hit three residential houses at Purok 2, Guisad Surong. Community members, rescuers and other responders rushed to the scene.
According to Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, four people were rescued alive and rushed to the hospital, while three were confirmed dead as of past 1 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2026. Strong rains have made the rescue efforts more difficult.
Meanwhile, 14 families or 62 individuals were evacuated to the Baguio International Academy. Seven evacuees were brought to the Guisad Surong Barangay Hall.
The city government is appealing to the public for any assistance that may be extended to the evacuees.
