Filipino-American prospect Remy Martin will never miss an opportunity to represent the country in any capacity.

Suiting up for Strong Group-Pilipinas in the Jones Cup, the 28-year-old Martin said it was a dream come true to represent the country, even describing it as a bigger achievement than being drafted into the National Basketball Association.

The 2022 US National Collegiate Athletic Association champion said playing for Strong Group is his way of showcasing his skills in hopes of being considered for Gilas Pilipinas in the future.

“I’m always grateful to play basketball, but it makes it so much more special now because I get to play for the Philippines,” Martin said.

“I hope one day Gilas gives me the opportunity. I’ve been watching it (Gilas) since I was young, and I always wanted to be in that type of a platform.” Ivan Suing

Martin was one of the prospects included by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) in its “23 for 23” pool when the country hosted the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Unfortunately, Martin wasn’t able to secure his Philippine passport before turning 16 years old, denying him the chance to play as a local cager.

Still, Martin wants to leave his mark as part of the Strong Group side that is gunning for the Philippines’ first-ever three-peat in the Jones Cup.

“I’m always grateful to play basketball, but it makes it so much more special now that I get to play for the Philippines. I’m just excited. I just thank SGA for the opportunity and coach Charles (Tiu),” Martin said.
