MISAMIS ORIENTAL — A lane along the Davao-Bukidnon Highway collapsed recently in the mountainous Marilog District, stranding large vehicles and causing severe traffic backups on a primary land route connecting the Davao Region to Northern Mindanao.
The road slip occurred at Purok 12 Falls in Barangay Buda, causing a portion of the asphalt to sink. Fallen debris and dangling utility lines blocked the damaged lane, making the stretch impassable for trucks, buses and heavy equipment.
Public Works and Highways personnel arrived at the scene to evaluate the damage and begin clearing operations. Emergency crews installed safety markers, warning signs, and hazard lights around the site to guide motorists.
Under updated travel guidelines, light vehicles may pass using the remaining open lane with extreme caution, while heavy trucks, buses, and large vehicles are being diverted to an alternate route via Datu Ladayon, Katipunan and Campo Uno.
Officials urge motorists to delay nonessential travel and obey on-site traffic controllers, as long delays are expected.

On 23 July, a major landslide at Sitio Marilog Proper forced a multi-day closure of the highway, prompting Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon to order accelerated clearing operations and slope reinforcement.
Earlier in the month, inspectors discovered tension cracks along a 60-meter stretch of the highway in Barangay Buda, leading to lane restrictions and continuous monitoring.
Officials said repair timelines and reopening updates will be released following further structural assessments.
