Globe Telecom, alongside the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the provincial government of Pangasinan, marked a digital inclusion milestone with the ceremonial activation of a new cell site in Barangay Macaleeng.
The activation in the coastal town of Anda highlights Globe's mobile network expansion across 52 previously unserved sites, bringing mobile signals to zero-coverage zones for the first time.
The project fulfills the telecommunications company’s commitment to provide mobile network access across 180 locations under the DICT's digital inclusion campaign. Beyond the newly connected areas, the expansion optimizes network services and bandwidth across 128 underserved communities.
"This is an important milestone. Every new tower means more communities connected, more families reached, and more opportunities opened," DICT Undersecretary for Support Services Heherson Asiddao said during the event. "This is why connectivity is not just about technology. It is about the people and making sure that where they live does not limit what they can achieve."
The ceremony brought together local officials, community leaders, Globe executives, and residents. During the event, local beneficiaries received and activated Bayanihan SIM cards for immediate mobile and data access.
Anda Mayor Joganie Rarang stressed the economic and educational benefits for the local population.
"For our students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and families, better connectivity opens doors to opportunities that were once beyond reach," Rarang said. "This milestone is an investment in the future of Pangasinan."
The expansion is intended to improve local access to online learning, digital government tools, healthcare information, financial services, and communication.
"The hardest places to connect are often the communities that stand to benefit the most from connectivity," said Carl Cruz, president and chief executive officer of Globe. "Whether through new technologies, stronger partnerships, or innovative network solutions, our goal is simple: to make sure geography is never a barrier to opportunity."
