  • Hindi panghihimasukan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at ng ehekutibo ang magiging hakbang ng Office of the Ombudsman kaugnay sa imbestigasyon sa maanomalyang flood control projects, kabilang ang kasong kinasasangkutan ni dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

    Ito ang iginiit ni Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro nitong Lunes, ika-3 ng Agosto, kasabay ng pagbibigay-diin na malaya ang Ombudsman na magsagawa ng kaukulang hakbang dahil isa itong independent body.

    “Hindi makikialam ang Pangulo at ehekutibo sa mga prosesong ginagawa ng Ombudsman,” saad ni Castro.

    “Kung ano po ang nakita ng Office of the Ombudsman, patungkol sa kaso ni dating Speaker Romualdez, hindi po natin ’yan panghihimasukan,” dagdag niya.

    Samantala, nang matanong si Castro ang naging desisyon ng Sandiganbayan Third Division na pagkalooban ng piyansa si dating Senador Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. kaugnay ng kasong malversation, ay ayon sa Palasyo, bahagi ito ng proseso kung saan dapat igalang ang magkahiwalay na tungkulin ng bawat sangay at institusyon ng pamahalaan sa pagpapatupad ng batas at pagresolba ng mga kaso.

    “Nadinig po ng Pangulo na it’s supposed to be a whole-of-government approach. Kung nagtatrabaho ang Ombudsman, nagtatrabaho ang ehekutibo na panagutin ang dapat managot, obligasyon din po ng judiciary na maayos ang kanilang pagresolba sa kaso.”

    Matatandaang sinabi ni Ombudsman Remulla na inaasahan nila ang naturang posibilidad, at binanggit na mas lalo pa nilang pag-iigihan sa magiging proseso, kaugnay ng paglaya ni Revilla.

    “We predicted this to happen.”

    “Pero, that's only a battle. We have to win the war as a country,” ani Remulla.
