DBP, Phivolcs forge enhanced climate risk management partnership

DT·30 July 2026

  • State-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has partnered with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) to integrate geohazard information into its risk management framework and strengthen its lending and investment operations.

DBP president and chief executive officer Michael O. de Jesus said the agreement will allow the bank to access Phivolcs’ GeoRiskPH platform, enabling evidence-based credit evaluations and data-driven business decisions.

“We view this partnership with Phivolcs as a tangible manifestation of how government agencies can strengthen their collaboration and leverage shared expertise in advancing a safer, more resilient, and sustainable Philippines,” de Jesus said.

DBP, the country’s ninth-largest bank with total assets of P1.041 trillion, provides financing to four priority sectors: infrastructure and logistics, micro, small and medium enterprises, the environment, and social services and community development.

GeoRiskPH, a science-based platform led by Phivolcs under the Department of Science and Technology, provides real-time geohazard data and risk analysis to support hazard mapping and vulnerability assessments for disaster preparedness.

Under the agreement, Phivolcs will grant DBP free access to the GeoRiskPH platform, including its HazardHunterPH Pro application, allowing the bank to assess the potential impact of natural hazards on loan collaterals, investments, acquired assets, branch locations, and other bank facilities.
