NIA, TESDA launch skills training program for Ilocos Norte irrigators

The National Irrigation Administration–Ilocos Norte Irrigation Management Office (NIA-INIMO), in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), has launched a skills training program to provide irrigators with additional livelihood opportunities through technical education.
The Training for Work Scholarship Program was formally introduced to members of the Cura Irrigators Association, Inc. during a Training Induction Program held in Piddig, Ilocos Norte.
During the induction, participants were oriented on the 33-day Animal Production (Swine) NC II course by Donald Gorgonio, Instructor I of Marcos Agro-Industrial School. The training, which will be conducted through face-to-face, online, and modular learning, covers swine breeding, pre-breeding preparation, vaccination, medication, vitamin administration, proper swine management, and other competencies needed for efficient and sustainable hog production.
Vocational School Administrator III Nestor R. Pascual encouraged the scholars to complete the course and undergo the competency assessment to qualify for the National Certificate (NC) II in Animal Production.
Pascual also highlighted TESDA's other livelihood and skills development programs, including construction-related courses and solar installation training, which may also be offered to other irrigators' associations in Ilocos Norte.
Representing NIA-INIMO, Supervising Irrigators Development Officer Engr. Neil Victor R. Diculen expressed appreciation to TESDA for its continued partnership in providing capacity-building opportunities for farmers and irrigators.
Diculen said the initiative supports NIA's efforts to strengthen farmers' livelihoods by equipping them with technical skills that can provide alternative sources of income while contributing to the economic development of their communities.
The program forms part of the continuing collaboration between NIA and TESDA to promote skills development and improve the socioeconomic well-being of irrigators across Ilocos Norte.
