Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) received two awards at the 14th PNP National Biennial Summit of Women in Community Policing, held October 26–28 at the Garden Orchid Hotel in Zamboanga City.

Police Maj. Nieves M. Meña, chief of PRO2’s Regional Women and Children Protection Desk (RWCPD), was named Outstanding Senior WCPD Police Commissioned Officer of the Year 2026. Santa Ana Police Station in Cagayan placed Top 2 among the country’s Women and Children Protection Desks.

The awards recognized the recipients’ work in protecting women and children, including people affected by violence, abuse, and exploitation.

Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the summit’s guest of honor and speaker, highlighted the role of WCPD personnel as frontline protectors. He said effective policing requires compassion and respect for human dignity, alongside crime prevention and law enforcement. He also called for stronger WCPD capabilities and timely support, protection, and access to justice for victims.

PRO2 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Mariano C. Rodriguez congratulated Meña and Santa Ana Police Station, saying their recognition reflected the dedication and professionalism of the region’s police personnel.

The three-day summit brought together police officers, advocates, partner organizations, and other stakeholders under the theme “Advancing Women in Policing through Excellence, Innovation, and Inclusive Service Towards Safer and More Resilient Communities.” Discussions covered women’s leadership, gender equality, cybersecurity, mental wellness, resilience, and ways to strengthen protections for women and children.

PRO2 said it would continue to strengthen gender-responsive policing and improve services across Cagayan Valley.
