The Philippine National Police (PNP) clarified Monday that unblurred mugshots circulating on social media of two suspects arrested in connection with a vlogger’s death were not officially released by the agency and appear to be altered.

In a statement to DAILY TRIBUNE, the PNP acknowledged intense public interest in the high-profile case but warned that the viral images do not reflect official records.

“The images contain altered facial features and dates and do not match the official booking photographs maintained by the PNP,” the police force said.

“The PNP strictly observes established protocols to ensure that all official releases are lawful, accurate, verified, and consistent with due process,” it added.

Police officials said they have launched an internal inquiry to determine who altered and shared the booking photos.

“The PNP will look into the circumstances surrounding the circulation of these altered images,” the statement said. “Should any violation be established, appropriate administrative or legal action shall be taken.”

The law enforcement agency urged the public and news organizations to rely solely on verified channels to prevent the spread of misinformation while the investigation into the vlogger’s death continues.
