  • The European Union and the Philippines reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation in maritime security, defense and regional stability following a meeting between EU High Representative and Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

    During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding security and defense cooperation while underscoring the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.

    They also emphasized the need to uphold international law, protect freedom of navigation and overflight, and preserve a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

    The nations said they will continue to strengthen their security and defense partnership as they work together to promote regional stability and uphold the rules-based international order.
