So far, so good for San Miguel Beer import George King.

The Beermen are getting their money’s worth with their reinforcement following a great start in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Governors’ Cup.

Unlike in the previous edition where San Miguel switched three imports during the course of the competition, the team is very much satisfied with the high-scoring King’s performance.

King has been averaging 36.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in the Beermen’s three straight wins in as many starts in Group A.

“Oh, very safe. Very, very safe,” San Miguel assistant coach Peter Martin said about the early assessment of King’s run with the club.

The 32-year-old dropped 41 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while filling the stats box with four assists, three steals and a block in the Beermen’s 128-122 victory over erstwhile unbeaten Converge on Wednesday at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.

San Miguel climbed to a share of the lead with NLEX.

Martin, who has been handling the reins in the continued absence of head coach Leo Austria due to health reasons, also admired the leadership of King.

In fact, he also contributes during game huddles, showcasing his understanding of game situations and high basketball IQ.

“You know, sometimes he’ll get the board and draw plays for us. It makes our job really much easier. And then he talks to the players,” Martin said.

“At the start, he won’t be so aggressive. The first game, he’s always looking to make the pass. I told him that it’s up to him. He knows how to play with these guys. He knows how to motivate,” the Beermen deputy added.

San Miguel expects King to play with consistency and better chemistry with the locals moving forward.

“So, maybe a little more familiarity will be Okay. And maybe we’ll adjust a little more on defense,” Martin said of the Phoenix Suns’ 59th overall pick in the 2018 National Basketball Association Draft.
