Some 2,000 families living across the coastal and agricultural barangays of Alas-asin, Sisiman, and Baseco Country in the town of Mariveles, Bataan received training on disaster preparedness as part of AboitizPower’s proactive effort to cushion the impact of economic challenges and the looming monsoon season.
Thru AboitizPower’s private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), the Project KiloWatt was launched on 9 July 2026 at the said barangays, targeting the municipality's most vulnerable sectors.
The company stated that these sectors include primarily local tricycle drivers, fisherfolk. AboitizPower provided each household with 10 kilograms of rice to assist in their immediate food security.
Unlike traditional relief distributions, Project KiloWatt was designed as a dual-action resilience initiative. Recognizing that true community strength lies in self-reliance, GMEC and GNPD partnered with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Mariveles to integrate life-saving knowledge directly into the distribution process.
Alongside receiving rice provisions, beneficiaries attended an Emergency and Safety Preparedness Talk conducted by MDRRMO representative Junjie llegue.
The sessions equipped residents with practical, actionable knowledge on localized disaster preparedness, immediate family safety protocols, and emergency response strategies ahead of the peak typhoon season.
“Project KiloWatt is our way of ensuring that our host communities are never left behind,” said Joseph Paolo Mendoza, RSM Manager, adding that “By combining immediate, practical sustenance with invaluable disaster preparedness training, we are empowering families to stand resilient against upcoming challenges.”
Through Project KiloWatt, GMEC and GNPD reinforce their dedication to moving beyond traditional corporate social responsibility. By addressing both immediate nutritional needs and long-term emergency readiness, the company continues to light the path toward a safer, more sustainable, and highly prepared Mariveles.
