Gian Mamuyac is embracing a fresh start with Phoenix Super LPG, hoping to rediscover the form that made him a key contributor for Rain or Shine in previous Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors' Cup campaigns.

The former Ateneo de Manila University standout said he harbors no hard feelings toward the Elasto Painters after they traded him, along with a second-round pick in Season 53, to the Fuel Masters in exchange for a first-round selection in the same draft year.

Instead, Mamuyac is focused on making the most of his new opportunity.

"That's part of basketball. That's part of our livelihood. I'm with Phoenix right now and I'm committed," Mamuyac said.

"Change is always hard. I've been in Rain or Shine for four years. It's hard to leave your comfort zone."

Mamuyac made his Phoenix debut in impressive fashion, contributing six points as the Fuel Masters escaped Barangay Ginebra, 81-78, last Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to remain unbeaten in the season-ending conference.

The adjustment, however, has been easier than expected.

Mamuyac quickly found familiar faces in Phoenix, reuniting with former Ateneo teammate Tyler Tio while also joining former University Athletic Association of the Philippines rivals Ken Tuffin and Ricci Rivero.

"At first, I was scared. What's the feeling when you get traded? But these guys are really helping me," Mamuyac said.

"These guys in the locker room... they've been nothing but great. From the bosses, coaches, players, and even the staff, I felt their welcome right away."

Phoenix head coach Charles Tiu believes Mamuyac's best basketball is still ahead as the Fuel Masters improved to 3-0 to stay atop Group B.

"It's alright. He made some big baskets for us at the start of the fourth quarter when we needed him," Tiu said.

"He's only been with us two days. I expect him to get better, but there's still a lot of work."

With a winning start and a welcoming environment, Mamuyac is hoping his new chapter with Phoenix will allow him to regain his confidence and become a valuable piece in the Fuel Masters' unbeaten campaign.
