DENZA has unveiled the Z, its first all-electric supercar and the most powerful model yet from the BYD Group’s premium brand.
The Z made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where BYD executive vice president Stella Li joined former Formula One world champion Jenson Button for the presentation.
DENZA confirmed three main versions called Coupe, Spider and Racing. A Special Edition is also under development for a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap-record attempt.
All three production versions use DENZA’s e3 Sports Car Platform and a three-motor all-wheel-drive system.
One motor powers the front axle, while two motors drive the rear wheels. Total output reaches 1,604 PS and 1,240 Nm.
The Coupe can reach 100 km/h from rest in 2.25 seconds and has a top speed of 300 km/h. The Spider takes 2.3 seconds to complete the same run.
The Racing version can cut the sprint to 1.96 seconds with optional semi-slick tires, while its top speed rises to 350 km/h.
DENZA has also disclosed early figures for the Special Edition. Its output exceeds 2,000 PS, while the company claims a zero-to-100 km/h time of less than 1.7 seconds. That car also gets more advanced cooling and extensive carbon-fiber bodywork.
A 76-kWh second-generation Blade Battery powers the Z. Estimated WLTP range stands at 410 kilometers for the Coupe, 400 kilometers for the Spider and 380 kilometers for the Racing version.
Charging speed is one of the car’s major talking points. DENZA says its Flash Charging system can raise the battery level from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes.
A 10 to 97 percent charge takes nine minutes through a compatible charger, with peak power of up to 1,500 kW.
The Z also uses DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, which adjusts damping within milliseconds. The Coupe and Spider have air suspension, while the Racing model uses coil springs. Carbon-ceramic brakes come as standard across the range.
Track hardware becomes more serious on the Racing version. It receives revised cooling, a carbon-fiber front splitter, vents across the body and an optional adjustable rear wing. DENZA claims up to 1,060 kilograms of downforce at 350 km/h.
The Coupe and Spider measure 4,780 mm long, while the Racing model extends to 4,870 mm. Buyers can choose from 10 exterior colors and 10 cabin finishes.
The Spider also offers several roof colors, while four brake-caliper shades are available across the line.
Despite the numbers, the Z has four seats. The Coupe and Racing versions also offer 250 liters of luggage room, which expands to 550 liters when the rear seats are folded. Buyers who want a more focused Racing model may replace the rear seats with a roll cage.
The cabin has an 8.88-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.8-inch infotainment display. Other standard items include heated and ventilated front seats with massage, a digital rear-view mirror, soft-closing doors and a Devialet sound system.
Drivers can select Boost and Track modes through buttons on the steering wheel. Track mode records lap data and allows changes to power distribution, traction control, brake regeneration and suspension settings.
DENZA plans to offer the Coupe, Spider and Racing in selected markets, with initial customer deliveries expected before the end of the year. Pricing has yet to be announced.
