Different medical associations have expressed support for the appointment of Dr. Jose Brittanio "Brix" S. Pujalte Jr. as the new acting secretary of the Department of Health (DOH), saying his leadership and vision will help improve the country's healthcare system.

Pujalte's appointment as acting secretary was announced by Malacañang on Monday, replacing Ted Herbosa, who resigned to undergo knee rehabilitation.

In separate statements and letters, the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS), Philippine Dental Association (PDA), and Philippine Orthopedic Association (POA) all recognized Acting Secretary Pujalte's “distinguished career in public service, hospital administration, medical education, and healthcare leadership,” expressing confidence that he will lead the Department of Health with integrity, competence, and compassion.

The PCS described Pujalte's appointment as “a source of pride for the surgical profession,” citing his exemplary leadership and reaffirming the organization's steadfast commitment to partner with the DOH in promoting excellence in surgical care, patient safety, workforce development, and healthcare reform.

The PDA likewise welcomed the appointment, emphasizing its readiness to collaborate with the Department of Health in advancing oral health promotion, preventive healthcare, and equitable access to quality dental services for every Filipino.

The POA, where Pujalte previously served as president, extended its official congratulations and pledged full support for his vision to strengthen healthcare delivery, improve public health outcomes, and ensure accessible, equitable, and quality health services nationwide.

For its part, the Professional Regulation Commission's Professional Regulatory Board of Nursing, through Chairperson Dr. Leah Primitiva S. Paquiz, conveyed its full support for Pujalte's leadership while expressing optimism that his administration will prioritize preventive healthcare, strengthen primary care, improve hospital services, invest in the nursing workforce, uphold nurses' welfare, and advance the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act.

The Rotary Club of Manila also welcomed Pujalte's appointment, recognizing his unwavering dedication to public service and expressing confidence that his leadership will continue to strengthen healthcare programs that improve the lives and well-being of Filipinos.

Tondo Medical Center also extended its congratulations to Pujalte, expressing confidence that his leadership will continue to inspire excellence, innovation, and compassion in advancing the health and well-being of every Filipino.

The hospital likewise affirmed its support for his vision of a healthier nation.

Pujalte, a veteran orthopedic surgeon and career public health administrator with more than three decades of government service, has long been recognized for his leadership in hospital management and the medical profession.
