Around 2,343 families have been affected and displaced by flooding in the municipalities of Imelda, Diplahan, Payao, Kabasalan, and Siay in Zamboanga Sibugay as of 12 July 2026.
According to the Provincial Government of Zamboanga Sibugay, 1,351 food packs have already been distributed to affected families while validation and damage assessment operations continue. Relief efforts are also ongoing.
The flooding was triggered by heavy rains associated with Typhoon Inday. The provincial government, under the leadership of Governor Ann K. Hofer, has intensified disaster response operations through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Hofer directed all concerned provincial offices to sustain disaster response efforts, continuously monitor the situation on the ground, and ensure that all affected Sibugaynons receive the assistance they need.
The governor also emphasized the importance of close coordination among government agencies to expedite the delivery of relief and strengthen recovery efforts in flood-hit communities.
The provincial government said it continues to conduct rapid damage assessments and coordinate recovery and rehabilitation interventions to help affected families recover from the impact of Typhoon Inday.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain at designated evacuation centers until local authorities declare it safe for them to return home.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense Regional Office IX (OCD RO9) facilitated the delivery of humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon across Region IX.
The agency distributed 476 Family Hygiene Kits to the municipality of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay; 250 Family Hygiene Kits and seven Family Food Packs to Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay; 143 Family Hygiene Kits to Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur; and 164 Family Hygiene Kits to Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.
The relief items are intended to address the immediate needs of families affected by continuous rains and flooding.
OCD RO9 said the timely delivery of humanitarian assistance reflects the government's commitment to providing immediate support to disaster-affected communities. The agency added that, through close coordination with local government units and partner agencies, it continues to strengthen disaster response efforts by providing essential non-food items to help protect the health, hygiene, and well-being of displaced families.
The transport and distribution of relief assistance were carried out with the support of the 547th Engineer "Agila" Battalion, the 9th Regional Community Defense Group (9RCDG), and the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur through its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
OCD RO9 said it will continue to monitor the situation, coordinate response operations, and provide necessary augmentation and assistance to affected local government units as communities work toward recovery.
