Sagip Partylist Rep. Rodante Marcoleta
The Philippine National Police on Friday said it has fully complied with all directives issued by the Sandiganbayan regarding the custody and medical monitoring of detained Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force remains committed to carrying out all lawful court orders while ensuring the security and welfare of persons under its custody.
"The Philippine National Police has fully complied with the directives of the Sandiganbayan. We promptly submitted the required documents, including the medical report, and we will continue to provide any information the court may require," Nartatez said.
According to the PNP, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group submitted Marcoleta's medical report to the Sandiganbayan Third Division on 8 July and returned the warrant of arrest on 6 July together with the senator's mug shots, fingerprints and certificate of detention.
Marcoleta remains confined at the PNP General Hospital after experiencing chest pains and high blood pressure following his arrest on non-bailable plunder charges involving alleged undeclared campaign donations amounting to P75 million. The Sandiganbayan placed him under the custody of the CIDG while he undergoes medical evaluation.
Nartatez said the PNP applies the law equally to all persons under its custody.
"The PNP enforces the law and implements court orders fairly and without favor. Every person under our custody is afforded the same lawful treatment, security, and respect for their rights, regardless of position or status. Our actions will always be guided by the rule of law, professionalism, and accountability," he said.
