Customs agents intercepted an inbound cargo parcel containing an estimated P14.2 million worth of suspected shabu hidden inside spools of rope at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), officials said Friday.
The shipment, arriving Wednesday at an international cargo facility within the NAIA complex, had been declared as “plastics and topes,” according to a Bureau of Customs (BoC) statement.
Reports disclosed that the cargo was flagged after customs intelligence received a tip from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
A physical inspection of the package revealed 2,102 grams of the suspected illegal drugs concealed inside multiple rope spools.
The seizure was carried out by a joint task force that included airport police, the National Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Immigration, and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.
The confiscated drugs were turned over to PDEA for laboratory analysis and further investigation. Authorities are conducting follow-up operations to identify the senders and intended recipients of the package.
